Alyssa Vang - ASA 141 - Week 11 - Reflection
In the past 3.5 months in ASA 141, I've learned a large amount of information about cultures I was not aware with before I came in. My intensions of taking this class was for my ASA minor and also because I wanted to expand my knowledge on other cultures that would help me and my major which is Design. I thought this would expand my designs out of my own cultures and try to know in other cultures since theres a large variety of Asians from South East Asia (where I'm from). Going in learning about these cultures, it made me double think about designs that I should do in the future. Before making clothes about another culture, it's important to learn about the background of what the clothes mean because anything can happen with my design and can actually offend others as appropriation. Another big idea that I've learned through this course was sustainability. We talked a lot about fashion and how to be sustainable. I've taken sustainability classes under design about sustainability itself and it expanded my knowledge even more about sustainability. I had a lot of fun creating the last project, my group made our own recycled dress and I was happy how it turned out. Hopefully in my future, I can continue educating others about fashion sustainability and also about other cultures.
