In the article "Speaking through Cloth: Teaching Hmong History and Culture through Textile Art" by Ava L. McCall, the author introduces the essential Hmong culture and history, including the Hmong family fleeing from China to Lao, starting a new life and finally emigrating to the United States. Hmong paj ntaub is a sophisticated form of textile art. When the Hmong people live in Laos, it decorates the clothes and determines the Hmong of the wearer. The textile art of the Hmong's baby carrier and funeral dress reflects the religious beliefs of the Hmong. When the Hmong people fled to Thailand as a refugee, their economic survival relied on the creation of textile art with the market, which led to a series of changes in design, color, products and textile art. I can understand their cultural traditions through the costumes of the Hmong people and this is respect for a nation. On the other hand, I chose this photo because it shows the reader the design and features of the Hmong paj ntaub. It is a very typical ethnic style design because its color is very rich and varied.
