The article Japanese Teens as Producers of Street Fashion gives insight on Japanese street subculture and the development of fashion phenomenon affiliated with youth culture. It shows that within each distinct street fashion subcultures, there exists common values and norms that defines them and keep them together, and they are able to visual express these ideals to the outside world through fashion. Clothes, makeups, hairstyles, accessories, or just general attitude, they are all symbolic to their identity and their subculture. These middle school to high school is able to achieve something any high end designers cannot. Through their developed fashion phenomenon, they are able to spread their culture to other teens and other subculture, which diffuses their fashion to the rest of the world. This create new genre and new style in fashion that combines the best of multiple worlds. By examining their styles, you can tell their creative influences from social groups outside their own. For our projects, we are also tackling on the various subgroups fashion trends, just in a different time period. We each have our own visions on designs, but we can all take what we like off of each other and design something great. This is the true power of fashion. Through cultural exchange between street subcultures, each group are able to strength their bond and identity while reinventing themselves into something new. So how do we encourage more of these fashion exchanges?
