week 8
The Hmong, like many other ethnic minorities in china, express their tradition and heritage via their artistic textiles. Their embroidery style consists of large geometric designs. Different designs and patterns can be associated with different regions and cultural subdivisions. Some of these pieces use historical figures from Hmong folklore and history. This art form, however, is primarily generated by the Hmong woman. Being a medium with which to socialize even. Unfortunately through many years of war, exodus, and assimilation some of the tradition has been blurred and westward immigration has had an affect on the culture. However, the art form is still kept alive by many and distributed throughout the world.
