According to the article, "Cultural Economy of Asian Chic" by Thuy Nguyen describes how Asian fashion had played an impact on the Western hemisphere. Asian American designers were able to enter a new world to showcase their own designs with the influence of Asian designs. For example, in the article, it talked about how the French paper "Le Mercure" there was a new style of coat called the "manteau" imported from China. This became all the rage and it soon had imitations. Fashion in general always have imitations circulating around. This coat gave and played a role in how the East had a breakthrough into the Westernized fashion. The article also emphasizes, "Asian chic can be understood as a symbolic resolution to the dilemma of global interconnectedness, which has enriched American consumers with a world of goods but has also opened them up to a world of competition" (Nguyen, 5). The exotics of fashion of the East played an influence on Western designers. Such as the kimono, designers used the silhouette form or the trail form to reinvent a new way to design clothes. I find it interesting how designers use different references to influence their designs to reinvent something more modern to be able to be worn in whatever generation of time that the designer chooses to.
