Week 3
Fast Fashion
Diane Tran
According to the article, "Fast Fashion, Sustainability, and the Ethical Appeal of Luxury Brands" by Annamma Joy depicts what fast fashion is, the trends of it, and the ethical approach of it. Joy describes, "Fast fashion refers to low-cost clothing collections that mimic current luxury fashion trends. Fast fashion helps sate deeply held desires among young consumers in the industrialized world luxury fashion, even as it embodies unsustainability" (1). As a college student like myself, it makes sense why people are attracted to fast fashion because of how cheap it is. People who cannot afford the price of fashion, but also want to be able to express themselves in clothing they like usually reach out to an alternative such as Forever 21 and other store chains. I learned that there is a real big issue with fast fashion and that is fast fashion exploits oversee workers. They push to produce clothing faster to as little cost as possible. And thus, this creates problems such as safety and worker rights. In addition, fast fashion is environmentally disastrous for the world. There is resource strain to the manufacturing, but also people are consistently getting rid of their clothes because of how much there is and the quantity that comes with it. How do we stop fast fashion but also make sure it is reasonable for people to be allowed to purchase clothing that they want?
