Week 3-Fast Fashion

Week 3
Fast Fashion
Uyen Ngo
As people, we would all love to state that we do the "right thing" and that we avoid being a part of fast fashion. However, in reality, the truth is, the majority of us continuously play into the system without a hint of guilt. We are more than aware of the mention of sweat shops and other cheap resources of labor that these companies exploit. However, especially as college students, it is hard to turn away the flashing price of $10-$20 instead of the heavy price tags of designer clothing that could extend to the thousands, especially the "standard turnaround time from catwalk to consumer of six months is now com-pressed to a matter of mere weeks" (275).
And as this course has shown thus far, our fashion choices and clothes are meant to be a reflection of ourselves and especially in this period of our lives, our identity are ever changing and evolving so in some way it does not make sense to invest in pieces of expensive clothings when in reality, they might no longer reflect the person that we are in a few short months.  Fast fashion has always been a topic in which I found conflicting as it helps individuals find a way to express their identities without breaking their wallet but at the same time, it comes at the cost of others. So the question that it leaves me with is, how do we find a way to continue to provide the majority of the population with affordable new clothing (not thrifted items) without exploiting others.
