Week 1
Style Point of View
Prep/Street/Thrifted
Magnolia Garcia
My interest in clothing first came to be around the time that I was a junior in high
school, and I had just dedicated my life to keeping up with my favorite show at the time--
Pretty Little Liars. I liked the overall style of the cast but was most fascinated by that of my
favorite character, Spencer Hastings. Inspired by her modern take on an East Coast prep look
with some vintage influence, I found myself acquiring collared shirts, button-ups and blouses
with bows at the collars. I may have also developed a minor addiction for heeled boots and
booties (that is still in effect today). This new style of mine lasted a few solid years, up until my
second year of college or so. My older clothes weren’t the most “bike friendly,” and so I
gradually started to deviate away from “dressing up” every single day. Instead, I took on a
more comfortable and laid back style (especially after being introduced to the world of
thrifting) that included flannels, leggings, and high-top sneakers. Most recently, however, I’ve
felt nostalgic and have missed putting a little more thought into how I dress. My wardrobe is
gradually shifting once again, but this time, it feels like I’m experiencing the best of both
worlds--I’m trying to maintain both a hint of prep and street in my everyday looks.
