Week 1: Style Point of View

Week 1: Style Point of View
ASA 141
Mary Qin

My wardrobe is made up of a combination of the different stages of fashion that I experienced over the past years. I didn't follow fashion blogs or magazines, but I often shifted my style based on whatever happened to be mainstream at the time or what my friends wore. I found my inspiration on Pinterest, from my friends, and just whatever was popular in stores like Forever 21. My style ended up being so similar to whatever was popular on ads and on Pinterest, that one of my friends described my style as "basic."

For a while, I was in a skater girl phase. I owned flannels, jean jackets, several skater skirts, t-shirt dresses, and rolled up the cuffs of my jeans. I often wore high-top converse, flannels, or army jackets with my skater dresses. Then, for a time frame, I was really into scarves and knitted sweaters. My typical outfit consisted of cozy sweaters, beanies, scarves, leggings, and combat boots. I then had a minor hippie phase because a lot of my friends started to dress in that manner.  So I would wear patterned leggings and joggers as well as eccentric pieces of jewelry. After that, I found another group of friends, who wore a lot of crop tops. As a result, I also started wearing crop tops with shorts or leggings.

Now, I would say that my style is a combination of all of these different phases. What I wear is really up to occasion. However, in the past year, I have become less conscious of my fashion and often prioritize being comfortable first. My typical outfit now would be what I describe as a typical college-student outfit. I like to wear sweatpants along with sandals, running shoes, or low cut boots. I would typically be wearing an organization's t-shirt or a v-neck along with a UC Davis or sorority sweater over it. If I want to dress a little bit nicer, I like to wear leggings with a cardigan or jacket. My most worn article of clothing would be my low cut boots, which I feel like I can wear with anything, even sweatpants, at this point. The only article of clothing, I don't wear it with is "shorts", which I would prefer to wear with converse and long socks. If I am going out, I like to wear hoops. My outfit would then consist of crop tops,  tight skirts, or knee-high boots.
