Fast Fashion, Sustainability, and the Ethical Appeal of Luxury Brand, discusses why the rising wave of fast fashion is unsustainable. Fast fashion represents low-cost clothing that are based on high end luxury fashion trends. Put it plain and simple, fast fashion is a form of imitation. People who cannot afford or are not willing to pay huge amount of money for designer clothes can buy these fast fashion clothes for just a fraction of a cost at stores such as H&M. I'm not gonna sit here and talk about why I don't think any piece of wear that can be mass produced in a sweatshop somewhere in China should not cost thousands of dollars, or why a regular black T-shirt suddenly cost 80 dollars just because Alexander Wang "designed it", that's just the state of consumerism today so it's whatever. The problem with fast fashion is not fashion part, it is the fast part. Fast fashion rapidly makes new fashion wears in response to new fashion trends, which produces mass amount of pollution and waste. Anything for profit right? This sort of quick response market strategy is no good for anyone in the long run because not only is the pollution a problem, it also encourages bad workmanship and ever-increasing consumerism. People are aware of environmental issues, but not when it is applied to fashion. This increasing unawareness will only further drive up fast fashion's influence in the industry. So what step must we take in order to combat fast fashion?
