Week 3: Fast fashion

The world of "fast fashion' is the pinnacle of modern consumerism and one of the biggest contributors to global waste imbalance. It is specifically designed to be disposable and cheap, leading to bigger profits, but also much more waste. This kind of business model is becoming increasingly popular and much more engrained in first-world-life than ever.

Fast output and 'Planned obsolescence' is taking over the technology world as well. Even our phones are becoming more and more disposable as the technology advances. But what can be done to counteract this unfortunate system? Boycotts won't work as it's nearly impossible to get enough people to turn on a company to even put a dent in their global sales.

It seems a generational shift in values may be the only thing to force companies to change their business models seeing as there are many smaller designers and shops dedicated to sustainable slower fashion, like designer Wai Yang, that are becoming increasingly popular.
