Week 1
Style Point of View
Casually Comfortable and Minimal
Fara Suiza
I like to keep things simple, so in general, I dislike anything that's too complicated. Because of this, my style usually consists of skinny jeans and a t-shirt, but depending on the weather, I may put a hoodie on instead. I don't really bother with what most of my t-shirts look like because I'm always covering it over with a crewneck sweater or jacket. However, during summer, I mainly like to wear neutral colors and shirts that are a bit oversized because I liked to feel free without being too overly conscious of how my clothing is contouring my body. As for shoes, I also keep my footwear options limited. On a typical day, I'll wear my white Adidas Superstars because they go with everything, but if I'm running late for school or I simply don't want to take the extra time to put shoes on, I will slip on my Rainbow sandals and head out the door.
My preference for simplicity may or may not be influenced by the fashion trend going on in South Korea / Kpop at the moment, which revolves around street-wear; however, I can't afford the same clothes as celebrities, so I often try to mimic the same casual vibe with clothes I find at thrift stores!
I really believe that although I do love being simple and comfortable, my style choices are also dictated by my family's financial priorities, which is not clothing, and my personal feelings towards the fashion and clothing industry. I try to achieve looks that still express who I am on a budget, because it does not make sense to me to pay for name-brand clothing when it only takes company xyz to produce the product at a fraction of the cost. While fashion is a form of expression and art, my simple style choices ultimately reflect my personal feelings about the financial, ethical, and economic cost of fashion--if that makes any sense.
