Style Point of View
Urban Dance Influenced Comfort

My style would be described as comfort influenced by Urban Dance Fashion. Urban Dance is a style of dance, community, and lifestyle revolving around choreographed pieces and performance by a group of dancers. Because I have been on a team since my freshman year of college, I am heavily influenced by the style and fashion of the Urban Dance community. Adidas striped pants, leggings, oversized hoodies are just some of the pieces I own that represent my interest. Although I prefer a chic, preppy style on some occasions, I primarily fall to comfortable pieces of clothing. I like simple designs and dark, solid colors. I also care a lot about the quality and texture of my pieces. Lots of oversized t-shirts, sweatshirts that can coordinate with leggings and jeans. I do not have much time in the morning choosing outfits, therefore simple colored clothing allows me to just “grab-and-go”. For shoes, I wear various styles of running shoes that are comfortable to dance in such as NMD’s, Ultraboost. Since I am allergic to certain metal, my choice of accessories only limits to one to two dad-hats. My idea of clothes is comfort and functionality. I
In the reading composed by Jones and Leshkowich, the authors talked about how the choice of clothing represents individual identity and how the idea links to the topic of performance. The performance itself is an artistic expression of art and individuality, for me, dance performance is a way to represent me, just like the way I choose to dress.
