Style Point of View
"Streetwear/Athleisure"
Carson Ho
I started to gain an interest on the things I wear beginning around the 7th grade. Up until then, I would wear whatever my mom and grandma put out for me before I started school since I did not really care about what I looked like. Starting in middle school, I begun to notice a social hierarchy based on how a student dresses. I wanted to fit in the higher part of the hierarchy with the "cool" kids and not be perceived as lowly "dorks" or "geeks," so I began to take notice of what kind of clothing pieces were popular and put more thought (and my parents' money) into shopping for new clothes. As a result, it marked the start of my appreciation for fashion and bodily aesthetics.
I’d like to say that my sense of style can be described distinctively, but also at times separately, as both "streetwear" and "athleisure." I like streetwear brands and trends that are popular among the streetwear community, some brands include Supreme, The North Face, Champion, Stussy, Anti Social Social Club, and more. While I have a good amount of hype items in my closet, I always feel the need to buy more items. The problem is that most of these hyped streetwear brands and clothing items are pretty expensive for a normal college student, so now I always feel the need to hold back my shopping urges. Along with wearing streetwear, I also wear some athletic pieces when I want to dress comfy and more relaxed. Ever since coming to college, I often wear adidas soccer pants, a hoodie or t-shirt depending on the weather, and a pair of slides. I like to dress in athleisure when doing something where dress doesn't really matter, like going to class or going grocery shopping. I like to think that I am dressing up when I wear streetwear and that I am dressing down when I'm in athleisure, but sometimes those two styles mix like when I wear a Supreme hoodie with my soccer pants.
